This blouse is possibly from the Tzotzil Maya community of Santa María Magdalenas Aldama, Chiapas, Mexico. The is part of the larger municipality of San Pedro Chenalhó, in the highlands.
Says Linda Abarbanell, the "cut looks more like Tenejapa, but the designs are Magdalenas. According to Morris, the diamond shapes are symbols of the universe, the center of which is usually in the form of a butterfly that symbolizes the sun. The undulating lines along the sleeves may represent snakes, which symbolize the fertile earth. The small diamonds may be flowers or plants, or perhaps the weaver's signature. The yarn here is wool."
